Alumnus Update: John Gatke

Alumnus John Gatke (B.A., French and political science, ‘14) received a master’s degree in professional French from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in fall 2016, after completing an internship at Azur Développement in the Democratic Republic of Congo in summer 2016. He then accepted a project management position with Chemonics International, Inc. Gatke will be an associate on the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management Project which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). At $10 billion, this is the largest project USAID has ever funded.

As part of the contract, Gatke will work with a project management unit that serves Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. Gatke’s work with Chemonics International will help these countries develop medical product supply chains to avoid future shortages. The Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management Project specifically focuses on medicines related to four major issues: HIV/AIDS; malaria; family planning and reproductive health; and Zika virus. The project is funded through November 2020 but may expand in the future.
