In the News: Jordan Marshall Warns of Invasive Algae in Lake James

In News Sentinel’s article “Invasive Algae Found in Lake James: Boaters Urged to Clean Their Crafts to Prevent Its Spread” Associate Professor Jordan Marshall (biology) discussed the recently discovered invasive algae species (starry stonewort) in Lake James. Marshall said the algae doesn’t pose a risk to people or animals, but can hurt native plants and disrupt the ecosystem.  According to Marshall, it will be “difficult to stop” the spread of the invasive plant. He also urges boat owners to clean their boats when moving between lakes to control the spread of the invasive algae.
